Bloomsburg Softball Team Splits Action on Sunday

FLORENCE, SC--The Bloomsburg University softball team split a pair of games on Sunday at the Francis Marion Tournament in Florence, SC. The Huskies lost to fifth-ranked Columbus State of Georgia, 16-0, in five innings, then came back with an 8-5 win over Queens (NC).

In the win over Queens, Missy Bachert (Coplay/Parkland) hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to break a 5-5 tie. Pitcher Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) also helped her own cause with an RBI single in a two-run seventh inning to get some insurance runs. Tara Emery (Sunbury/Shikellamy) went 1-4 on the day with a solo homer, while Alyssa English (Wallacetown/Phillipsburg-Osceola) was 1-4 with a double. Lynn picked up the win by going the distance and striking out 11.

Against Columbus State (20-2), ranked fifth in the last coaches poll, the Huskies allowed 14 hits against a team hitting nearly .375 for the season. Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont/Southern Columbia) and Mandy Koch (Dauphin/Central Dauphin) each had one hit for Bloomsburg.

The Huskies (2-3) are idle on Monday and will play at Catawba College on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
